Role
Our Community Education Counsellors play a vital role in supporting the educational journey of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students within the school. This role is focused on building strong, culturally respectful relationships between schools, students, families, and communities. Through educational counselling, development of targeted support programs, and the promotion of inclusive cultural perspectives, the CEC helps ensure that every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. They also work closely with school staff and external services to strengthen engagement, provide guidance on cultural protocols, and foster meaningful partnerships that enhance learning and wellbeing for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
Location
The name of our schools Cultural Safe Space is 'Bulkairi' a Bundjalung word meaning 'Coming Together', gifted by Uncle Terry & Aunty Faith Green from the Bundjalung people of Fingal.
The Bulkairi Space is located at KBlock which is to the right of the Administration building as you enter into the main gate. This location allows our parents, carers and community to access a Cultural Safe Space directly from Admin. KBlock location allows for students, parents, carers, and community to have ease of access to our Community Education Counsellors, Heads of Year Level, Specialist and Support Staff and our schools Inclusive Practice Staff members.
Community Connections & Partnerships
Our Community Connections plays a vital part in our school community. This allows opportunity for our school to connect, engage and walk alongside our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community, Elders, First Nations organisations, Health Services Providers, Government and Non-Government Organisations as well as External programs that provide opportunities for our students to engage in Culturally based programs that include Dance, Mentoring, Scholarships, University programs and local school collaborations.
If you would like to make an appointment with our CEC's, you can make an appointment in person at Administration or by phoning the school on (07) 3290 7222 or by emailing them at CEC@woodridgeshs.eq.edu.au
