What is Chaplaincy?

Chaplaincy in an optional service within the school, which works with students, school staff, and parents to care for the emotional and spiritual needs of the wider school community.

The Chaplain can see people on an individual or group basis to talk about:

  • Relationships
  • Personal and Family Problems
  • Grief and Loss
  • Self Esteem
  • Spiritual and Faith Related Issues
  • Connecting in with a Local Church or Youth Group

The Chaplain not only meets with people on an individual basis, but also works with the school community to identify and act on issues that may affect students’ wellbeing and the school community as a whole. This may include organising events, facilitating mentoring groups and supporting the development of a positive schooling environment for students, staff and parents.

The Chaplain is available to talk to anyone about any concerns or problems they may have, however some problems may be better dealt with by other professionals within the school or wider community. For example:

  • Doctor
  • Youth Health Nurse (in school)
