School Based Youth Health Nurse Program:
Children's Health Queensland's School Based Youth Health Nurse (SBYHN) service provides free and accessible healthcare services to state secondary school students. It is a confidential, voluntary and a brief intervention service.
The SBYHN works with students and seeks their consent to share relevant information with school staff. Where there is a serious risk to the student's health or safety the SBYHN can share information in line with the relevant policies. The service aims to promote positive health outcomes and increase health literacy.
Individual health consultations:
Individual health consultations including assessment and referral to other support services are given as required.
The SBYHN focuses on the following health areas:
- growth and development
- smoing, vaping, alcohol, and other drugs
- feeling sad, worried, or angry
- healthy eating and exercise
- personal or family problems
- relationships and sexuality
You have two nurses covering daily here at school. Alayna is here Monday and Tuesday, Sarah is here Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, based in the Health hub in K block.
How to access the service: School staff are required to discuss the referral with the student prior to completing the referral. Alternatively, students can use the self-referral pathway.
DoE staff and parents please click here to refer a student for a consultation
