​​​​​Health and Physical Education Overview

Health and Physical Education offers experiential learning, with a curriculum that is relevant, engaging, contemporary, physically active, enjoyable and developmentally appropriate. Integral to Health and Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies that enable students to participate in a range of physical activities confidently and competently.

In Health and Physical Education, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to support them to be resilient, to develop a strong sense of self, to build and maintain satisfying relationships, to make health-enhancing decisions in relation to their health and physical activity participation, and to develop health literacy competencies in order to enhance their own and others' health and wellbeing.

Senior Subjects

Health (General)

Health uses an inquiry approach informed by the analysis of health information to investigate sustainable health change at personal, peer, family and community levels. Students will investigate a broad health topics such as alcohol, body image, personal health and respectful relationships. Students will acquire the skills necessary to plan, implement, evaluate and reflect on action strategies that mediate, enable and advocate change through health promotion. A course of study in Health can establish a basis for further education and employment in the fields of health science, public health, health education, allied health, nursing and medical professions

Physical Education (General)

Physical Education provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills to explore and enhance their own and others' health and physical activity in range of scenarios. Students learn about the body and movement concepts, as well as engage in a range of activites to develop movement sequences and movement strategies. A course of study in Physical Education can establish a basis for further education and employment in the fields of exercise science, biomechanics, the allied health professions, psychology, teaching, sport journalism, sport marketing and management, sport promotion, sport development and coaching.

​Sport and Recreation (Applied)

​Through the study of Sport and Recreation students will examine:​
  • ​the relevance of sport and active recreation in Australian culture
  • the contribution sport and active recreation makes to employment growth, health and wellbeing
  • factors that influence participation in sport and active recreation
  • how physical skills can enhance participaton and performance in sport and active recreation activities
  • how interpersonal skills support effective interaction with others
  • the promotion of safety in sport and active recreation activites
  • technology in sport and active recreation activities
  • how the sport and creation industry contribues to indicidual and community outcomes.

Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (VET)

Certificate II in Sport and Recreation provides students with an opportunity to learn and explore the recreation industry, through an NRL context. The course provides a combination or elite performance and embedded recreational practises. ​
Experiences:
  • Coaching community groups
  • Partnership building with primary feeder schools
  • NRL visits
  • Rugby League 9's Tournament​

Certificate III in Fitness (VET)

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a Fitness Instructor in settings such as fitness facilities, gyms, and leaisure and community centres. Students gain the entry-level skills required of a Fitness Professional (Group Exercise Instructor or Gym Fitness Instructor)
Experiences:
  • Community fitness programs
  • Strength and conditioning for athletes and teams
  • 1-on-1 and group fitness sessions with male adults, female adults and older adult clients
  • The nationally recognised First Aid competency - HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • Community Coaching - Essential Skills Course (non-accredited), issued by Australian Sports Commission.​​

​Sports Academy

The Sport Academy explores traditional Health and Physical Education topics, with an increased depth around students' chosen sport. The program includes basketball, football, volleyball and rugby league.

Specifically, students: ​

  • Undertake HPE curriculum in Sport academy classes with highly specialised sport specific teachers and coaches.
  • Further develop skills and sportsmanship through sport Enrichment classes on Tuesday afternoons. • Participate in interschool sporting & regional competitions for their sport.​
