Role
The role of the Pacific Island Support Worker is to provide educational counselling and support services to Maori and Pacific Island students, to equip them for the development of learning and participation at school. This involves connecting with students, school staff, community and family of students to ensure that knowledge is obtained to support each individual student.
Location
The location of the Pacific Island Support Worker's office at the school is in K Block.
Partnerships
We have built numerous partnerships with outside community groups, individuals and key stakeholders for educational and cultural purposes. Some of these partnerships include Yourtown, Multilink, Logan Police, Access, Griffith University LEAP programs for Year 10, 11 and 12, Equity Services and PCYC.
Crossing Cultures
The Pacific Island Support Worker also facilitates Crossing Cultures: providing cross-cultural awareness training to the school and broader community, ensuring that the appropriate embedding of Maori and Pacific Island perspectives in schools is obtained. Through this engagement, the Pacific Island Support Worker is often approached to be a guest speaker or provide contacts to community to link into the classroom. The Pacific Island Support Worker aslo works to support the development of strategies to best connect with students and families, by incorporating culture, values, beliefs, languages and lifestyles.
