​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​How does the ILO support students at Woodridge SHS? 

The Industry Liaison Officer (ILO) can support students by:

  • Turning casual or part-time work into a traineeship or apprenticeship while they are still at school
  • Understanding the whole process of SATs and helping them to find and start in work placements
  • Volunteering in the local community to learn and practice new skills and increase their readiness to work
  • Asking employers if they can provide work experience hours
  • Organising structured work placement
  • Discussing workplace expectations (e.g. appropriate clothing, safe behaviour, communicating with peers)
  • Assisting them to gain essential documents and follow key processes (i.e. TFN, USI, Superannuation, Driver Licence, mygov etc)
  • Sharing key information with parents and carers to support and encourage student progress
  • Preparing them for interviews by asking a lot of questions that will help them think through their answers
  • Giving feedback on their resume and cover letter

What is a SAT?

School-based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SAT) are a training agreement between the:

  • Student, and their parent/carer
  • School
  • Employer
  • Training Organisation
  • Apprenticeship Support Network Provider

​How does a SAT benefit a student?

A School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT) allows students to:

  • study a Certificate III course
  • do paid work for an employer each week
  • gain real 'on the job' experience
  • gain confidence as they adapt to a work environment
  • earn up to 8 QCE points on completion

 

Where are SAT opportunities advertised for students?

Students receive notices, emails and assembly presentations from the Industry Liaison Officer (ILO) on a regular basis. The ILO shares SAT opportunities from:

  • Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
  • Group Training Organisations (GTOs)
  • Australian Apprenticeship Centres
  • Local employers
  • Community Groups and Partners
