Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy



Woodridge State High School provides young female athletes that display talent in the area of Touch Football the opportunity to participate in an exciting program that focuses on Touch Football.  The Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy is committed to providing students with the opportunity to pursue their interest, increase their knowledge and improve their skills in the area of Touch Football. 
Course Partners                                                                                             

The Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy is the only school in Logan to have formal partnerships with both Queensland Touch Football and Country Club Colts Touch Football Club. The Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy is the only school in Logan to have formal partnerships with both Queensland Touch Football and Country Club Colts Touch Football Club.  These two formal partnerships help us provide unique opportunities to Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy students and ultimately provide Logan’s only direct pathway to elite representative Touch Football.   
Course Organization     
Successful applicants will study Touch Football as one of their elective subjects. Students have Touch Football based lessons each week which will include both practical and theory lessons.  During the practical lessons students will focus on skills and strategies for touch football, along with strength and conditioning, speed and agility development. During the scheduled theory lessons topics such as diet and nutrition, sports medicine, exercise physiology, recovery techniques, coaching and refereeing will be covered. 
Costs
 
Participation in the Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy incurs additional costs.  The current costs for the 2018 school year are available on application. 
Selection Procedure
 
The Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy is an officially approved Education Queensland program that is able to accept students from outside the schools catchment boundaries. 
To be considered for selection into the Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy girls must complete the application form (available online) and return it to Mr. Drew Millar dmill24@eq.edu.au or deliver it directly to the school before Friday 21st July 2017.  With only a limited number of positions being offered entry into the Girls Touch Football Academy selection is very competitive. 
All students will be required to trial before being accepted into the Academy.  The first round of selection trials will be held on Wednesday, 26th July, 2017 from 3:30pm – 5:00pm at Woodridge State High School. A second round of trials may be held in Tem 3 – please contact Mr. Drew Millar for date and time confirmation of this second trial –dmill24@eq.edu.au or on phone number (07) 3290 7222.
To be accepted into the Touch Football Academy, applicants must demonstrate certain qualities and levels of performance. They must demonstrate:
  1. Sound touch football skills and/or athletic ability and a commitment to improve
  2. Commitment to promote the good name that ‘Woodridge Girls Touch Football Academy’ has in the school and wider community;
  3. Academic standards that reflect genuine effort across all your subjects; and
  4. A high standard of attitude and behaviour across all your subjects.
