Year 10 Girls FOCUS Mentoring Program

Over three Wednesdays in May and June, eight Woodridge High Year 10 girls were invited to attend a leadership program at the Microsoft Building in Brisbane City. The event was hosted by ABCN who provide structured mentoring programs for students by partnering them with business professionals, in this case female executives who acted as their role models and mentors. The program aims to support young women to develop their leadership skills and aspire to senior roles in business and the community – to improve achievement and foster a sense of self-belief that will encourage students to aim high and have confidence in their leadership abilities.

Marina, Ushmeeta, Debra, Alice, Litia, Chelsea, Delaney and Zinita attended this event along with eight Year 11 girls from Mabel Park High School. Our Woodridge girls certainly matched it with the Year 11 Mabel Park girls in terms of confidence, enthusiasm and leadership qualities as they participated in interactive personal growth and leadership activities as well as enjoying quality time with their mentors who were businesswomen from a variety of backgrounds and vocations.

The way our students conducted themselves on each of the three days was outstanding and the respect shown to the organisers of the event, as well as to their mentors was a true indication of the Woodridge Way! The entire school should be proud of these future leaders as they have shown the quality that Woodridge High so often produces. Congratulations girls!
