LEAD with Griffith University

L.E.A.D (Legacy, Education, Achievement, Dream) is a Griffith University-led Pasifika outreach program designed to broaden the career aspirations of young people, which Woodridge SHS has had the pleasure of being a part of for a number of years.

From 30th May to the 1st June, we were fortunate enough to accompany some of our amazing Year 11 & 12 students on the L.E.A.D camp at Tallebudgera, run by Griffith University. Alongside students from, Glenala, Mabel Park, Marsden, Beenleigh, Keebra Park, St Francis and Upper Coomera, our students engaged in activities which forced them to step outside their comfort zones, set personal and educational goals, embrace their cultural identities and become motivated to achieve their dreams.

This camp was an amazing experience for all who were involved, and is a remarkable initiative run by Griffith University that really supports the aspirations and abilities of our Pacific students. It was amazing to see the transformation in some of our students over the three day camp, and the determination to achieve, despite the barriers which emerged.

The feedback from the staff from Griffith, and all the other schools reflected how amazing our students are. Special mention needs to therefore be made of these wonderful young people: Dayemon, Hosanna, PJ, Mele, Jarrau, John, Celena, Suliana, Shannon and Alisha all demonstrated what being a student from Woodridge is truly about, and have all also confirmed what bright futures they have ahead of them!
