Change Makers – International Award Winners!

We are proud of living in Logan City. We are proud of our stories, our cultures, our histories and our school. Our school is one place where we all feel safe and is where we learn about each other. The Change Makers magazines have been a great way for us to tell the stories that matter to us in a way that doesn’t put us down or stereotype us.

The Change Makers magazine is a collaborative media project by staff and students of Woodridge SHS and journalism staff and students from the University of Queensland. Both editions of the Change Makers magazine were embraced by the Logan City community and was welcomed in cafes, doctors’ surgeries and sports centre – anywhere that local residents and school supporters might find it.  Both editions of the magazine – Change Makers I and Change Makers II – have also been received by school supporters in every state and territory of Australia and by numerous state and federal government departments.

The Change Makers magazines have also been acknowledged as a significant piece of student journalism through some prestigious awards and acknowledgments:

- 2014 Ossie Awards for Best Student Publication (a very competitive Australasian award)

- 2015 Queensland Multicultural Award for media and communications (beating seasoned journalists from the ABC and SBS)

- 2015 State Finalist in the Department of Education’s Showcase Awards

- 2015 Spotlight session at the annual Walkley Foundation Storyology Conference in Sydney.

Change Makers I (2014) and Change Makers II (2015) have been organised around the themes of hope, pride and inspiration. We hope that our stories provide possible solutions and future possibilities on how global issues can be addressed at a local level.

We also hope that you continue to enjoy reading the ‘real story of Woodridge’ in our magazines. If you would like a hard copy of a Change Makers magazine, please contact the Office on 3290 7222 or 3290 7272.

Watch out for Change Makers III due for release in 2016 / 2017.
